Once upon a time, there was a young girl who discovered a Turkish cat. This cat, however, was quite shy and skittish around people. While they enjoyed playing and sharing meals together, the cat would always scamper away whenever the girl tried to bring it indoors. The girl couldn't quite figure out if the cat truly liked her, but whenever the cat came around, she would patiently open the door and enjoy their time together.
With winter approaching, the girl realized the need for warmth and safety for the cat. So, one day, when the cat visited, she decided to bring it inside. To her surprise, the cat got startled, maybe due to her quick movements or its own aversion to being held, and accidentally scratched her hand. In pain, the girl instinctively let go. The cat was dropped on the ground, gave her a soft meow before darting away, and disappeared from her life.
The girl missed the cat dearly and couldn't help but worry about its well-being, especially after the fall. Every week, she left cat food by the entrance to her yard, a small offering of hope. Maybe the cat had found new companions or a place it preferred, a life distant from her. Yet, every week, the girl replenished the food, quietly acknowledging that cats with such independent spirits seldom retraced their steps.
Still, she continued her gesture, a silent expression of her longing, even as she considered the possibility that one day her longing might ease, and the cat would remain a memory. On that day, she would retire the bowl, a sign that her heart had finally let go, just like the cat that had slipped through her fingers like sand.
