I feel I’ve experienced quite a lot of these feelings and obsessions before (at times, initiated from my side and the others, from my partner). I think the hallmark of any relationship (friend, family or romantic) that is sustainable and nurturing for all parties involved (especially in today’s world) is the ecosystem that they clearly define - traits like trust, support, respect should be a given.
With such an ecosystem set and sufficient maturity, it grants us the ease to be in one another’s space without being obsessive or over-needy in any way - let things flow naturally.
Obsession can be extremely draining and simply isn’t sustainable in my opinion and forcing it in any way just degrades the whole feeling & experience over time. Passion in moderation is fine.
thanks for the post esther, this makes me rethink about my last breakup because i'm surprised by how quickly I moved on from it. i think it's partly because at the time i have learnt to somewhat moderate my "obsession" with my romantic relationship, and it's not the determinant of my emotions anymore.
